Hey guys, im thinkin of keeping "the devil" or red devils. I know they are extreemly aggressive but is there anything I can add with them? I was thinking maybe large tetras. something fast. The tank is 75 gallons is this enough room for atleast one Devil to live conftorably? also are Red devil's primarily carnivores so can I feed them both frozen and live food (feeders fish, shrimp, etc)

Upgrade to a 125G tank and you can put a Black Shark in with him.

you could keep cons with them. just make sure you have plenty of caves he can't get into, with exits so he can't just keep them under siege. I have my RD with 6 cons. i have a network of caves I made out of flat pieces of granite. there really isn't any aggression, as the cons live primarily below ground (or can get there pretty quick).

my RD doesn't bother my O too much, but she's a female and the O is a tad bigger than her.

just watch out when your RD lays eggs (if you have a female) she becomes a real wench. remove the eggs quickly, she'll calm back down.

Well my Devil has taken out 2 oscars, but I agree 100% about the Cons, Ive got cons in with my devil and they really dont even interact with him at all, good mix!

if anything, my cons tease my RD. they come out, nip her in the ***, and let her chase them around the tank a few times before slipping into a cave. its pretty entertaining.

I've since done away with the bubbles (at least until my fish start gasping).

I was hoping to acquire a male red devil and put a few male convicts maybe 3 or 4 and a mid size catfish and algea eater. Does that setup sound ok. There would be plenty of small hides of course. Keep in mind if this dosen't work im perfectly fine with keeping him by himeslf.

I was searching the web for red devils and a fish called the midas kept popping up. They look about the same but it seems as though alot of fish keepers don't know the difference. Can anybody describe or even better show me the differnce.

I also want a male of whatever species I get. Is there an accurate way to sex them as juviniles? Or should I do the buy a few and wait tell they mature trick?

most of the red devils found in typical pet stores will be a red devil/midas hybrid. It will be hard finding a pure specimen except through breeders that have good sources
