People always say florida/spotted gar:irked:
What is the difference.
Size?
Look?
growth rate?
Or is it the same thing?

Help me out im confused:nilly:

there is virtually no difference (that most of us can see) other than the locality of the fish. this has been dicussed many many times on here. do a quick forum search and check some of the threads out.

for all practical intents and purposes relevant to their captive husbandry and external ID, consider them the same fish. there are differences, and we're working on a good way to present them in the near future--

Thanx.
But what is the size difference how big do they get?

that thread isn't very useful given the latest info, but it is ok to read to see the progression of the discussion, etc.

as for size differences, in captivity it's generally safe to assume there will be no noticeable size difference between the two species. again, as i mentioned earlier, just treat them both the same for husbandry purposes--

But what gar tankmates can i add whith the florida/spotted?

I do not have a spotted but I have friends who do and it does look different then my Florida. That said the spotted and florida seem to me to be the ones that get along with anything as long as they are not bullied. In my tank now I have a Florida, 2 tropicals, Longnose, Silver Aro, ornate and longfin bicher. All get along with the exception of some fin nipping from time to time. Also the only fin nipper is my oldest Tropical. The Trops seem to be more aggressive in my opinion. The florida and longnose can get along peacefully with anything, you have to watch for other fish bullying them. Hope this helps.
