the enemy of my enemy

I have a few spiders that stay with me in my place , they are part of the fam, and they help with catching the cricket and other insects that escape. i want to get a few geckos and let them run around in my place

I had a friend that was bit by a tarantula at camp pendleton. certain times of the year they are all over. He had two decent sized holes in him but the venom, if any, didnt do much. Infection from dirty punctures wounds seemed to be the docs biggest concern.

I don't know if many of you realize this, but 99% of the time you get a doctor diagnosed "spider bite" it's just an infection (normally staph.) If you come in and say "I think this is a spider bite" doctors LOVE when patients self diagnose, it makes their job so much easier.

Anyway, point is, unless you SEE the spider bite you, or you get a case of necrosis on your body (in the case of recluse bites,) then you didn't get bit by a spider at all. So...relax. Spiders are good, don't let the phobias instilled into us by our parents get the better of you.

your not putting the raid in your tank, the ant/roach type i indoor safe. it doesnt burn doesnt discolor furnature, or bleach the walls, but to each his own.
I don't use these chemicals in my home either.

I haven't heard a cricket in my house since this summer, when two cats moved in!

so what are you most likely to have gotten bitten by if not a spider then? Or are you just implying those bumps are staph infections even though you see a hole that could be bite marks? i'm probably just clueless cuz i've never thought i had a spider bite or weird bumps on me

It's the damn crickets! I hate it when they hide behind the tank and I can't get to them.

Anyone have any tips?
They only live for 8 weeks. Do you keep reptiles? I only see these tan color types for sale in pet stores. Most of the wild crickets I see are black variety. I had 2 boxes of 50 4 week old crickets escape in my house. Had crickets all over the place for about month then they were gone.

Staph infections themselves often cause "puncture" looking type wounds, where it eats your skin away. It could be from an infected hair, or a small seemingly insignificant cut/abrasion where staph has invaded.

Google pics of staph infections. Often times, it can be spread through something as seemingly innocent as getting a pedicure at a spa that uses "jets" in their foot baths. It's also called "flesh eating disease."

With this guy lurking around, Im not likely to find any crickets in my room.

I'm sorry, this is not a true statement at all.
There are varying degrees of tarantula venom. Every tarantula can and will bite if provoked enough. The only tarantulas that have urticating "hairs" are new world species. All old world species do not have these as a defense mechanism, and typically are more aggressive and have a more potent venom.

If you try to remove their fangs after they molt, they will "bleed" to death.
A tarantula can bite many many times over and over, they do not die or lose their fangs like bees lose their stinger.

And I know many people who have been bitten by tarantulas.
I didn't say that I will remove their fangs, just remove the itchy hairs ! and I never know any record about tarantula bite people!
