man the thing isnt even out yet and every one is bashing it.... give it a chance before you go knocking it

if it does stink then fine bash it all you want, but no one knows yet

lol exactly...

whether the eheim fanboys like it or not, fluval / hagen are big name in aquarium filters and if you look at the output of their range in the last few years, through 04, 05 series, the u series internals and the FX5, they've been a lot more innovative than eheim have.... you could easily state that they have at least tried to offer interesting features... eheim have basically done them same thing since the pro 2 range... and the pro 3's are expensive and offer nothing truly new.

note that the pro 3 e filters had major issues and eheim quietly reviewed that range, and introduced a revised model - yet everyone makes out that they never put a foot wrong.

everyone ashing this needs to wait for a price announcement and a full hands on review before slating it.

at the very least, if it combines the fx5 pump tech with electronic control and the multistage filtering of the 05 range... then what's to ***** about?

i agree i will wait to give it a try before i bash it,people bashed the fx5 and it turned out to be a great filter i have one or two on all my tanks and actually replaced a eheim with one

well i could buy two fx5 in aus for the price of 1 eheim

These WILL NOT sell in the quantity they would like if they are going to be priced like gold. I wouldn't buy it for more than $300. The Fx5 is only worth about $180-240 and their 405 is only worth about $100 if that. Obvesouly the price TOOOO HIGH! Because I have seen the 405 for $200!!

sorry.... but when did anyone ever pay full mrp these days for anything?

lets speculate about the prices once we know what retailers actually intend to sell it for

Look at the Fx5. Ebay sellers were selling them for $120-180 and they were selling like crazy. Then Hagen found out and stated no one could sell under a certain price so they all had to jack the prices to around the same price for less competition.

Consumers will buy something when they think its worth the money. Many think the Fx5 is not worth over $250. I wouldn't buy one if it was over $200

If the pleated filter clogs up in a month of so, this filter is worth UNDER $200. Because it has a digital screen, everyone may go crazy over it for awhile. I know it will have some nice digital features but if you need to tear into it every month or two and buy a new cartridge, the filter's value drops.

I bet the flow rate will be less than 300 GPH. Although, they may advertise the filter's PUMP at 800 GPH and try to get everyones attention.

Hagen is praised for their line of Aquaclear filters and rightfully so.

but prior to the intro of the FX5, which really redeemed themselves in the canister market, the line of fluvals had a pretty crappy reputation.

I can relate, I owned one of the 204's, and it was the worst filter I have ever had. not only that, hagen changed the design of the aquastop system several times, not sure if they ever ended up getting it right for that particular series..

in the 8 years I worked in fish retail, the older 03's and 04's were always having problems.

once the renas came in, people tended to go with that over the fluvals, with eheim being the best seller.

now, everyone talks FX5.

Hagen has done a 180 for themselves, so we shouldn't count them out just yet. they may produce. although I really hope cartridges aren't part of the equation..

with the economy the way it is and if you notice a lot of fishkeepers are quitting and selling everything, Hagen better be smart and not overprice these things....
