THE fly fishing thread.

And that time of year can be really amazing in the high country (small streams, beaver ponds, etc.) Also the terrestrial fishing can be awesome on the bigger rivers. It just depends on what you want to target.

We aren't too fussy. I'd like to target larger fish in general, but I - like you it seems - prefer a more remote area where the banks are not lined with people fishing. If I could backpack in a few hours to get away from the majority of people, I would certainly take that route.

Sweet vids man! Pike on the fly are a blast!

Some backcountry lakes can produce 18-20" fish pretty regularly but I don't know of any lol (I've seen the pics to prove it though) I generally like moving water, and I know of quite a few amazing small streams where you rarely, if ever, see another person. In the basalt area you can have your pick...trophy trout, isolated lakes and small streams, and warmwater fishing, all within a half hour drive!

Yeah, that totally sounds awesome. I just have to figure out what we are going or I am going to drive myself crazy thinking about this place. Lol.

And a side note....pretty sure I saw a mountain lion when I got back to my truck (it was dark and I just had my little light) so I will no longer be fishing there without a gun lol. I usually always carry in the woods, but this stretch is right by the town so I didn't think it would be an issue...I'm glad I live in a state that allows open carry!

Nice brownie! What kind of gun do you carry with you?

No doubt, I think a 9mm might just make a large mountain lion more angry... unless you're a very good shot. :D
