THE fly fishing thread.

NIce catches fisher!
I love the scenic views as much as the fish also.
We could use some rain and clouds out here.

OMG dude, those pics are awesome! I love the scenic ones just as much as of the fish. Man, I'm really going to have to show this thread to my buddy to try and convince him that CO is where its at!

Colorado is pretty sweet! My only complaint is with the massive amounts of people everywhere you go. Most people are lazy though, so with a little effort, you can find some sweet solitude!

That fly in the ear is pretty funny! Anytime that happens is a good reminder of why barbless hooks are nice lol.

One of my strangest catches, an artic char that had escaped from a trout farm into a chalkstream.

That's awesome! There's one lake in CO where they have been stocked a few times, but I've never heard of any confirmed catches!

Thanks man!

We still need a lot of rain! It's been a very dry year...some streams already have voluntary closures because of the low flows and high temps! They are also starting to drain a few lakes on the eastern part of the state, they have fish salvages going on. And I saw one report of a stream that was almost completely dry :(

Yeah, I think I'll start pinching barbs down from now on, lol. Luckily it wasn't my ear, nor my fly. :D

I may have my buddy convinced that Co is where it's at this year... I'll keep you updated if we decide to head your way.

I've been tying away and I am getting a lot better at the clouser type minnows. I did order the red dumbell eyes and they look so much better than the plain gold. The other night I tried tying a deer hair bass bug... it's a lot harder than it looks on youtube, lol that's all I have to say. I wanted to do a bunny leech but I don't have any strips of material like they use for the tail or the wrapping. I do want to try a handful of those too though.

My first bug looks ok, but I can tell it isn't going to last long, probably one pike or a few bass. That is, if they think it looks like something other than a wad of deer hair, lol. The second one I tied much better. I packed it tighter and the ties are much stronger. I haven't cut it down to shape yet but I'll try that tonight.

Here's the first one:

And the second one unfinished yet:

Ahh yes, I remember when I was first learning to spin deer hair. It was (and still can be) very frustrating lol. The most.important thing is probably packing the hair tight enough. You can buy hair packers to help, but I typically just use my nails. Be very careful not to ram a finger on to the hook point lol. Trimming the hair is probably the most difficult part! Definitely stick with it and learn...if you can get good at spinning deer hair you'll be one step ahead of many tyers!

It also allows you to get quite creative with your tying...here's one I made for a friend that has horses lol

If you look close, there are 2 size 30 "flies" on it

Nice, lol. What do you use for thread when spinning deer hair? I've busted my thread twice spinning and that's frustrating - messes up that whole pinch. Yeah the packing and spinning is tough but I did a much better job the second time. I trimmed the hair down a bit and they look pretty good! I'll get pics up soon. :D

Alright, I trimmed up the deer hair a bit and I'm pretty happy with the results. Let me know what you think.

And the second one sort of turned out like a diver, lol. Not sure where I was going with it.

Anyone been fishing lately? I would love to see some pics...its been a pretty $#!%@& week for me. Some of you may have heard of the mass murder here in CO....this one hit me very close to home. Happened 5 minutes from where I grew up, at a theater I've been to many times. At least two people I know where seriously injured. I would love it if someone could throw up some pics so I have something else to think about...
