I went out in my tube yesterday morning and got another 14 stockies. No pics this time...

CMon guys! Post them fish pics!

I've worked at this pier for four years. A fish sighting is rare. The south shore of lake tahoe is a big sand bar. There is no cover for the fish to hide. The last couple weeks a few will appear in a small time frame each morning. This morning I managed a beautiful 15-16" Kokanee on the fly.

I'm heading up to the Eastern Sierra's this weekend. I've got a new float tube that I want to try out. I'm gonna try to catch some big Golden trout at Laurel lakes. I'll post some pictures when I get home. Wish me luck.

I just got back from a trip out west to Lewiston ID. We did pretty good caught a lot of cuttys, but no trophies. It was still a great time. I'll get some pics up either later tonight or tomorrow.

Great stuff gangster - some nice fat bows man.

Slayer is that a pickerel? Pike are fun to catch on the fly, aggressive and they run hard.

Every year now for the past three years I've flown out to Spokane WA to visit a friend who lives in Idaho. Last year he was in Kellog ID, this year he had moved to Lewiston ID. Every year we do a little camping and a lot of fly fishing. This year was no different. We drove about 4 hours from Spokane to our first campground on the north fork of the Clearwater river. It's a beautiful area except for the fact that its dry as a desert out there. The river was pretty low and the wild fire risk was high. We were only allowed fires in state provided rings, which was fine.

The weather was good. 70's during the day, 40's during the night. We tented but had a fire each night so it wasn't horrible. I did wake up a few times during the night because my arm or hand snuck out of the sleeping bag and had begun to freeze but inside the bag was comfortable. I mean, as comfortable as sleeping on the ground can be. :D

As far as fishing goes this year was kind of an oddity. There were lots and lots of hatches, every afternoon but we saw very few fish surfacing. Maybe saw a couple dozen the whole trip. Last year (we were on a different river - the St Joe river) when there was a hatch you see a couple hundred fish surface in a 15-20 minute period. All you had to do was match the hatch and you'd get some fish. Since nothing was coming up, we didn't know what to use. We used a lot of midges and duns but they were all ignored. Eventually my friend got us on track by using a hopper (grasshopper pattern) and then it was smooth sailing. Any terrestrial pattern was eaten greedily. Hoppers, ants, water bugs, even some mayfly patterns - orange stimulators, elkhair caddis, etc.

Enough with the chatter, some pics. First of the scenery. :D

A pretty special moment for me. First wild trout caught on a fly that I tied myself. A black wolly bugger.

This is a Kokanee salmon. They were all over in the river and had just finished up spawning. Most of them were dying off pretty quickly. This one had a little fight in him but it was pretty easy to just walk up behind him and net him for a picture. I released him right after.

Two of the last three nights we were there we kept fish and tossed them on the grill old fashioned style. No utensils, no pans or pots or tinfoil. Just fish on a grill with a fire. Soooo good.

Had a blast. We'll have to decide where we are going next year since he is moving back to minnesota soon. Colorado, Wyoming, Arkansas perhaps?

Looks like a blast echo! Fish are eating hoppers here as well.

This morning before work I coaxed another into eating a bugger. Sight fishing at its finest.
