I found a small lake with a lid over the weekend, and I'm planning on icing it Saturday! It might be time to start an ice fishing picture thread :headbang2

Your telling me. The morning started off at 1 degrees the last day we went out....sunday. The water was almost slushy like in the start of the AM. Ice along the banks till about 2pm. The browns are spawning and the bows are following em up eating eggs. Go out and give it a shot! The winter is what seperates the boys from the men around here.

I've done plenty of winter fly fishing, its just not for me. When the guides start icing up every other cast and your line turns into a giant icicle, it quits bein fun for me lol. I'd much rather sit in a heated hut, drinking beers and fireball whiskey all day ;)

There's no place to go really. The one trout stream I hit up in southern MN is still about a 7 hr drive and it's been so dry all summer I'd be surprised if they re-stock it this fall. All the lakes are still open, but I winterized my boat already so that ship has sailed. I've got a little hunting season left and then it's all ice ice baby (cue vanilla ice music).
 
man, went throught this thread and saw some great catches. You guys are making me want to get back into fly fishing!

Its taken my passion for fishing to a whole new level. NOt only is it a great time to enjoy hanging out w/ your buddies but its great enjoying the outdoors and nature. I will be taking a buddy out fishing tommorow and possibly the next day. The fishing is great right now! But I will admit we are also quite spoiled living where we do. There is always something good to fish in the area. And in the summer I can walk out my back door for a 2 minute walk to the river....after dinner even when im all hammered :)
 
Looks like you have it made G! I'm a Fisherman/Hunter stuck in the city. If I could make the money I do in the city while living in mountains, I'd e all over it. I don't get to bring out the 4wt as often as I'd like. it's about that time here for some midging.
