we get them here thru a friend who is an exporter, although the fish are present right in our state.

in one of our collection trips we made in a region called as malnad region, we did collect one, and mind you this area of river was pure fresh water and was atleast 100-150 kilometers away from the sea.

they are fairly easy as loaded ghost shrimps are very accessible in and around the area

BTW these are a friends fish who is quite a specialist in the indian natives

FYI - They have been on sale before through vendors here on MFK, expensive though...
 
I have eight specimens that supposly came from Thailand . They seem to take about a week to settle in before they start eating brine shrimp and black worms. The local fishstore still have around five or six more specimens that I may end up getting all but only two at a time .
 
There are a few species that are common in freshwater here in north australia. You need at least three people to catch them but, one netting and two on croc watch.
