The future of fishkeeping

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
15 years from now, eh? i dont think well find common cichlids we find now in 15 years.. the way the hybreds are jumping from store to store and being bred and faking the hybreds as pure species..... so no i dont think well see common fish we see now in 15 years. on the other hand i think filteration and what not will be improved big time

I don't think I would want a deep water tank. A water leak is bad enough let alone one at a couple hundred or thousand psi

More automation, fewer species available, higher prices and pickier hobbyists.

An ever-increasing rift between the overbearing wealthy hobbyist who pays people to change his water and the poor hobbyist with more passion and dreams and raw grit than any pampered moneybags could ever fathom.

Incredible differences between stores in a given town, moreso than today. One shop will have practically nothing but bread and butter, and the shop a little way away will stock nothing but specialty imports and rarities. This happens already, but I think it will get more extreme.

15 years is not alot of 'forward' time guys..lol

0 -15 Years
To be realistic, design will be better, chemistry will infiltrate a hell of a lot more, & commercial products will expand.

15 -30years
We will see much needed regulation on both supply & demand, coupled with real-time assessments and licensing issued or displayed before purchases. This will do away with the needless livestock deaths around the world by inexperienced keepers whom consider losses expectable, fail to research, or parents that buy nemo by the seat of their pants for an instant kids goldfish bowl.

Technological assistance aids will be mainstream, giving real-time parameters of tank conditions anywhere in the world, & having the ability to rectify issues given user defined acceptance of autonomy functions.

It will be the mainstream start of serious corporate involvement in the hobby, muscling out the independents or low/mid volume operators.

Do you want to go further into the future..

The Iphone20 will have an app that lets you check your water parameters from anywhere.
