Ok, so the big day has come. Hagen tech support just about told me that it's almost always user error if there is a problem after setup. So, Im tempted to take the whole thing down to the county courthouse with a notary public present and about 75 to 100 witnesses to sign a petition that this has been setup correctly:naughty:. And have my local news station film it!!!!!

So im hoping you can all help me with a few questions that aren't very clear in the instruction book or video.

A. When installing the hose onto the (i'll call them input and output nozzles) you loosen the clamp and slide it over the rubber and of the hose. You then slide the hose onto the nozzle as far as it can go. The book says on page 7 and 8 to tighen each clamp (two in this case). So this should be very simple but to clarify how tight is tight??? How do I make sure that clamp isn't digging into the rubber ending on the hose or damaging it in anyway?

B. When I place the Lid on the filter and put the fasteners into place how many times should each one be turned and is there a proper order in which to do this (I think there are like six or seven?) to insure a proper seal?

C. may there be any additional advise you can offer me in insure this goes well? Is it OK to use a little Vasaline or some such thing to help make sliding the hose in place easier?

Say I prayer and keep your fingers crossed for me:grinno:.

You tighten clamps until they are snug but not to the point where you can no longer turn the screwdriver.
When tightening the lid, you have to tighten the screws opposite of each other. So if you tighten the one closest to you, you then tighten the one opposite of the one you just tightened and then repeat for all the others. And I wouldn't use vaseline because it could cause the hose to slip off eventually. Other than that, good luck to you.

X2

Setup is fairly simple, if you are really worried (you shouldn't be) then watch the instructional dvd or watch this 2 part YouTube video: http://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=hdjv_6mPhtM&desktop_uri=/watch?v=hdjv_6mPhtM

Setup is straight forward and simple on this filter. Although I'd skip all that stock hose stuff and go strait for a hard pipe. :D

Why can't you keep all your fx5 rants in 1 thread, you keep making new ones.....when threads die there is a reason.....

Dodge had a problem with their tranny cooler lines. The problem is very simila to what you have going on. Too loose they leak. Too tight they eat through the hose. They came out with revised clamps that are blue in color. I'd suggest procuring some from you local Dodge/Jeep/Chrysler dealership, ordering some online, or simply using the plastic clamps that are out there. Obviously plain old metal clamps ween't meant for your application.

Know what I'd do with that FX5? Same thing I'd do with any FX5......... Throw the damn thing in a trash can where it belongs. Nobody wants the joy of maintaining one of those POSs. Most people get them going and leave them, they're so user unfriendly that maintainance and procrastination go hand in hand and your fish suffer.

I think watching the DVD and following it step by step is the best way to do it. Or you can search on youtube and there will be the official Hagen video on how to set up the FX5.
