i'd go with a gar.

not because i'm a gar keeper and been interested with gars for a long time.

it's more on the fact that Aros are really really common in my country
they're like goldfishes in here(except the price)

Arowanas are what got me into fish keeping, so I'm a bit biased... I have to admit that gars look pretty sick too. Why not combine the best of both worlds!? But, if it came down to having to choose, I'd go with arowanas. They mean too much in my culture and I feel like I'd be turning my back on my people.

I voted for aro, BUT, I think a single monster aro is way better looking than a group of them. However, if you were looking for a community, a group of gars is the way to go.

I have done both, with large set-ups. I prefer the Gar for various reasons.... Overall for me they are a more interesting fish.
