Some natives are...Smallmouth and Largemouth Bass, Burbot, Bowfin, Yellow Perch, Rockbass, Silver Bass, Northern Pike, Musky, Walleye, Sheaphead, Sunfish, Lake Sturgeon..There are many more that I know I am not thinking of.Deepwater Sculpin, lake hering.
Some that are thought to no longer be with us, the blue pike, the cisco species, harelip sucker. I think that 2 lake trout species are the only two native species of trout, all the others were introduced I am not sure on brook in the great lakes, they are native to PA maybe long ago they were here, don't see them much at all, I can see why the trout came it is a multi-million dollar business up here with the steelhead. A lot of the other non natives came by ignorance or mistake white perch, goby, freshwater shrimp, alewife...
Ill add to that list with species of whitefish/ meeomie (not sure how you spell), Brook trout, Lake trout, smelt and many other small minnows. I am sure there are many more Oh yes there is native Lamprey, and white bass. There was once the blue pike before it disapeared, there are many sucker species.

There so many different fish in the system youll never can know what you might catch on a given day.

I know that is why I love fishing the great lakes! Nothing like it! We don't get the Kings down here. I think I have caught 2 king and 3 coho ever, a few pinks. Pennsylvania is all about the steelhead, if you ever want to make a trip I could show you the secret spots, away from the crowds, you can catch 20 down here on any given day if you know what your doing, it is a lot of fun! From the sounds of it seems you have enough fun where your at.hahaha I talked to a guy the other day he said he was from New Zealand!:nilly: I was a little bit poded when I saw my favorite spot on espn last year, we have liscence plates of cars from all over the states..good thing I still know of some secret spots!!! The amount of people has quadrupled imo in the last 5 yrs. We now have more people on any given weekend than we did on opening day of trout 10yrs back!! Just ridiculous...

yea Iam sure stream fishing is a little different, as for the river you cant really have hiddenspots. Its nothing to pull into the parking lot and see 20-30 cars there with lots more people then cars. We have summer steelhead (skamania) fishing. So we can fish yr round for steelhead on this river. So from forth of July weekend till November the river is packed. My fav. part of the yr is the spring catch and release bass fishing nothing like catching over 20 smallmouth from under a pound up to 7 pounds.

Gobies are turning Smallmouths from 4-5 pounders to 7-8 pounders, esspecially on Lake Erie and Ontario. But don't count out Michigan and Huron

Can't beat Smallies from Michigan, What town you from? I can point out alot of good Bass lakes for you. Biggest Smallies I caught was 8 ounces under the state record, Brevoort Lake. Biggest Largemouth I caught I released but it weighed 12.1 pounds I didn't want to screw up the ponds food chain, Private Pond, Eagle, Michigan
