It bough a new fish this weekend and they called it a silver dat....but it doesnt look like a dat...it looks more like a perch and i was wondering if anyone could tell me what it is.. i only pay $8 ofr it so either way its a good deal...:headbang2

This is the silver dat. Datnioides (coius) quadrifasciatus, likes a bit of salt. If this is not your fish please post a pic!

pix added in the original post....I was there when he got this fish, it does look very perchish, and I would have got them if he didnt :grinyes:
 
Can't really be sure but looks like one of the siniperca, maybe Coreoperca whiteheadi.
 
Thats a barrimundi. I just got one a week ago with a silver dat. It could eventually get 5'. I don't remember the scientific name though, but I will see if I can find it.
 
Here is the scientific name. Lates Calcarifer.
 
i dont think its a barimundi because of the white stripe down its head
 
Yeah it is. I have the same fish. They lose the stripe as they get older. Take a look at the pics on this site. They have adults and juvie pics.
