This "lake" is one of the big reasons for me moving to hawaii.. THere are MANY different species of fish ranging from the amazon to the west african river systems.

Unfortunatly the water level was down 6-7 feet, and the little coves and shallows were almost dried up, so the big shoals of Cichla and other large cichlids were not visible :(...

some baby fish.... From the looks of it, this group is a mix of baby tilapia, Hemichromis, Severum, Red devil..... I was scooping them up with a plastic cup... there are millions, everywhere....

These large guys were feeding on the small ones. Unfortunatly I was unable to get a clear shot of the large school of 2-3 inch cichla, but they were raping the little schools of fish ;)

Here is a pair of Hemichromis Elongatus. Interesting fish to find in this area IMO.

Nice, looks like a cool place.

yea... when you getting a pond/tank

I think I will set up a couple smaller tanks up soon, Need to get a couple of my older set ups shipped over. I want to do a salt tank and a freshwater.... just grow out babys, and release them when they are older. I dont see a pond for a couple years... Simple because property is $$$.. But once I have a large yard... you can bet your ass There will be a monster cichla pond ;) I want 10,000-20,000 gallons of pure cichla.

ship those little guys and you could make some dough

Thanks for the comments. I am extremely amazed at the eyesight of most of these fish. They will spot you 30-40 feet away hiking in brush. THey are extremely alert. THe last few times I went there I witnessed feeding behavior with a small shoal of 13-15 inch cichla, this lake is paradise for a fishkeeper such as myself.
