The female seems to have much redder color in head/face region, while the male is more yellow-ish. Is that expected of the species, or due to locale differences of these two individuals?

There are no locale differences, Amphilophus hogaboomorum only occurs in the Rio Choluteca basin in southern Honduras on the Pacific slope.
Nice female bro, they should make some good looking offspring if you can make it happen.

After much deliberation I have decided she is not a Hoga and is a Red Isletas. They were improperly labeled when they were originally brought in to the wetspot. Will more than like be ordering some from Rapps to get a female.
