I went here because a class mate told me they saw some shameful fish keeping and I had to check it out for my self. It made me sick, and it was worse when the chick told me these guys were fine and happy.

Take a look and tell me if these jack dempseys and jags look happy to you.:irked:

Sorry to be a downer.. I just wish there was something I could do to stop this. I don't shop there, and tell other people not too as well... but it doesn't help... its depressing.

Thats ridiculous do the employees there think there fins are suppose to look like that.:swear:

I know! that is what i said... I asked why they were being allowed to live that way, and after she tried telling me they were fine, i just laughed and was like you have got to be kidding and walked out. :angryfire

I saw a lfs that tried keeping Channel Catfish with Jewel Cichlids and a few other African Riverines. The Channels had literally no fins. Even the spines were missing.

Yea I have seen that too... There is a big Ich infection as well as other weird disgusting things there. it was sickening.

Not all chain stores are that bad. It all depends on who they hire. If they hire just 2 people that care about fish it would be better. I have a petco that's not that bad. I have a small chain store pet supermart that was bad till they hired someone that cared now it's so much better.

It comes down to employees. I have a walmart that honestly has fish that look ok because there is someone that is a fish keeper that takes care of the fish. I have talked to him before.

I do agree. The problem is that the corporations care more about "professional experience" than true animal experience or care.

I just wish that when hiring, they would look for people who can do both customer service and care about the animals.. that would be a change I would be happy about!

Part of the problem is they are not selling the fish fast enough, and the fish start to grow and become territorial in too small of space. Not that this excuses this happening, but I have seen it in smaller LFS as well.It is to bad.
