The Journey Begins..Oscars Growing Out

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looking good, very nice setup hope the oscars don't wreck it too much.
Have they actually spawned yet?
No spawning yet...over the last 6 weeks or so they have just started to practice cleaning rocks together, lip locking and alot of gill flairing, tail whipping etc..

View attachment 1427745got a heap of java fern and moss from a local hobbyist for a fresh change.... see how long it last before geos and Os decide to rescape hopefully they let it be....??
Really love the green, it adds pop and shows the O's reds nicely. I normally don't care for black backgrounds but yours looks nice. That light wash effect really makes a difference!

Thank you!!! I am really loving the greenery it does seem to make the fish colours pop more and it appears to give the tank alot more depth!! Just hope i can get them to really thrive and grow!! The Os have left it alone for the most part... 3 days and counting lol

So I added a gold saum to the tank as he was too good looking a fish to pass up... 20200911_094817.jpg20200903_131909.jpg20200903_122250.jpg20200903_122246.jpg20200903_131915.jpg20200903_122205.jpg20200903_214651.jpgAnd 2 days later these 2 Os spawned for the first time!!!!
Im still not sure if I have male and female, but the tiger I now know is female. They ate the eggs after 1 day of protecting them.20200911_094817.jpg20200903_131909.jpg20200903_122250.jpg20200903_122246.jpg20200903_131915.jpg20200903_122205.jpg

This is looking better with every update. Good luck with th Os spawning again, if you have a true pair you will soon have an oscar production line going on. You will be able to make a bit of pocket money as there's always demand for good quality oscars like these. I've noticed lots of deformed ones in shops lately with either hunchbacks or weird shaped mouths which I assume is from inbreeding, if you can get some babies they should stand out from the usual mass produced ones you see around.
