Thanks Joey, it really is. I sit there for a while just watching the fish. Could never do that with monster tanks for some reason. Lost interest quickly :nilly:

Yea, I think I'll go back to being monster when all the kids are out the house...lol.. then I can really enjoy. For now it's back to basics for me and simply enjoy keeping fish.

My 180 is almost done so I'm excited =-) Will most likely just keep a few low lit plants.

What? starting a 180 planted? Start a new thread.:headbang2
Still going strong J .

Great shots as always, however clarity of the water column looks to have dropped alittle though? Or is it just my eyes dropping off due to age..lol

2 questions regarding density planting.

Once they reach larger growth potentials, do you expect to see die back where they meet with eachother. Or they dont get much bigger to start with?

This type of arrangement means fish cant / dont make a bid to get through it, so 1/2 your tank (in this case) is sectioned forward for swimming only?
i think it's just the pics, water is still very clear

definitely, dieback at the base of the stems is always a concern as the plants grow. as the mass builds, lower parts of the plant wont get enough light. this is one of those longterm issues with planted tanks. as of now, everything is doing good. ill just have to play it by ear as time goes on. if i see certain plants not doing too well, i may have to move them around, or even trim and replant, throwing away the bottom portion of the plant and keeping the top part only.

pretty much, i'm going for the dense jungle look which means the fish are forced to stay in the front. i guess it works out though because it means they cant be hiding all day :)

Jose, get some shrimp in there!

I don't think your fish are big enough to eat them..either way, they can hide out in the jungle...I had some with the Rasboras, they'll breed like crazy once they get settled in! Just buy like 40-60 of them so they don't inbreed too much. They'll also help with any algae/detrius you may end up with, since they are scavengers.

You could also try pond snails, but you'll want to get a freakin puffer fish (preferrably a Fahaka, because the name is cool, and they get to like 18" and are strictly freshwater) to eat all the snails after a while.

yeah ive been wanting to buy some, but its always such a waste of money! i bought a few Amanos when i first set up the tank and they all climbed out. in my last tank i had a bunch of RCS and they slowly disappeared. not sure what happened. id buy some ghost/glass shrimp but ive heard they are so weak since theyre used for feeders that theyll die off quickly
