The joys of moving.

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So update. There will be a ton of photos to follow. I ended up working from 4pm -3 am fri, then 11 am -3:30am Sat, with help from 3-9:30pm from a friend. (I had moved all but the 250 fish.) When he left I had fun moving those fish and realizing that I suddenly had a discus that died and all my others were showing bad signs... I quickly tossed them into the 135 that was now about 1/2 full of water that had warmed up. I figure they just didn't get enough 02 since I put a ton of plant, not bubler (2 xp3 but I didn't think to set it up for water agitaion) and other fish all in a 55. I am sort of pissed about that mistake.

Anyways after catching that and fixing it I also seem to be loosing some cool kellies. (Yah yah not monsters but we all need our little tank that isn't jut a fry tank.)

But back to the story I then took the now empty 55 and had fun tearing apart my 250's filtration... geting gross water everywhere I may add. (I did clean it up, and prof carpet cleaners will be in there likely Tue.) But yah getting that 250 to a state to move it took a lot of work and much more time.

Then today (sun) I started a 9, (all fish have already been move just an empty 250, and lots of little things...) I had 3 friend come over to move the 250... I forgot to take pictures since we were so intent on moving it without anyone getting hurt not to mention the tank. (The cool thing is that I used that tall cart to hold the tank, since it is made to hold heavy uhv equipment.) It went perfectly and within 20 minutes the stand and tank were setup in its new place.

I still have to do some things to get plumbing up, and seeing as there is no rush it likely wont happen till ~tue or later.

Anyways we finished moving everything else by 4, and then I had to clean the apartment... I finished ~8. So needless to say I am tired, and not willing to get the desktop setup so I can post some more pictures.

BUT I do have to say don't every move a 75 by yourself... I did and nothing broke... but well I would never ever do it again.

And thanks for the comments, don't worry plenty of photos are to come. (Oh and I do have a python I just don't tend to use it to fill tanks, only empty, I am a little crazy on wanting to treat the water first.)

I am moving in two months, and worried about moving my 55g tank

Thanks a lot for the pics... I like reading about these things :D You had an awesome setup, I'm sure the new one will be even better with the new room.

I like the idea of having many tanks... you can have species tanks, different aquascaping, etc. More fun!

Oh yeah, you owe a few cases of beer to some friends...:D

Ok so now you can start to see what happened.... (First off no more fish have died, which is good, but my dog needs ~475 dollars worth of surgery because she has a stupid swollen gland.)

So back to the fun stuff.

Late Fri evening... Still had a long way to go, was waiting for the second 55 to empty. (I brought them down together, and put all the breeding fish in a 50 with some other africans, though the holding female went into a ten.)

Still had the 120, 250, 75, 135 all to be moved...

IMG_5100.jpg

And a whole lot of other stuff.
IMG_5101.jpg

55s moved and 75 being prepped. (IE already moved all the fish from the 75 to a 55.)

Spot where the 50 used to be.
IMG_5104.jpg

The dumbest move I did... a 75 all by myself. I know better for next time, ie this tank isn't in it's final spot yet.
IMG_5105.jpg

Shots of the 55's. The other one held the discus for ~5 hours... and I lost one as you already know.

75 in place, and the 50 full of fish.

IMG_5112.jpg

All the fish in the 120 are now out and moved to the 75.
IMG_5113.jpg

Filters on the 120. (Xp3, AC110, Fx5).
IMG_5114.jpg

And a very filtered and crazy crowded 75. (2 xp3, 2 ac110, 1 fx5)
IMG_5115.jpg

Sat. A friend (Chun-yu) came and helped me move all the two people things. So some shots of progress. (and an action shot of Thena saying hi.)

After I lost my help I moved all the fish out of the 250, and then proceeded to make a sump for the 250... Likely all the bio material will die before I fully get the thing running but I don't plan on rushing. But I can get to the tank now :-) I will still use socks for the pre filtering, then there are course sponges and less course (about the same types that come with the xp3) and then the finer stuff that I may or may not keep in. Finally a full 20 gallon rubbermaid of bio material with ~400 gallons of bio material rocks. I put 3 bubbler wands on the bottom.

55 and pup.

Tanks half full of water.

More stuff moved and finally the 250 moved. (It will take a while to get everything organized.)

IMG_5139.jpg

Anyways if you every need to move larger tanks I can't stress enough how much a heavy duty cart will help you (even if you do have to put it on a truck and then back on the cart).

good luck with the move anyway what floor where you in previously?

I was on the 3rd floor which was actually 4 floors up... I realized I had to move because when the dog ran past the 250 I could feel the vibrations... (Note I had the 135 up for 2 years there.) Like I said I am semi crazy when it comes to safety. (Though I did get extra insurance.)

So I have gotten the large tank up... it isn't full yet since I want to wait a day more for the caulking that I put on to hold some stuff to fully dry.

Anyways it apears to work well again so all tanks made the move with no real problems.

And I decided to do away with all the sand in the 135 because I couldn't keep it clean enough for my tastes with the discus.

I do like bare tank looks but well I have never been the largest fan on pots. IE it makes the tank look unfinished but well for now this will do.

i hate to say it but you have to many tanks

this is why im a 1 tank man

it must take you ages to maintain all them tanks 1 tank 1 water change 1 feed then sit back and enjoy :D
