The loneliest frog in the world.

it's sad all right. especially since the frog was removed from his habitat bcuz someone assumes that they are 100% right about knowing for sure that there is not a female out there somewhere in his habitat. How many times has some species been thought to be extinct and then years later some survivors are discovered.
No chance that'll happen when human eco saviors remove them. and for what actual purpose?
If they can't preserve a pair, then leave them alone. the frog's mating call might've worked out where he came from. Who knows???
That pathetic unicorn article is just another form of condescending human presumption & arrogance./ IMO.
Rant over.

He wasn't even the last one collected. They took more species and tadpoles and lost them all. They probably had a better chance in nature. Face palming so hard right now

what I don't understand is, if they truly believed an individual animal is the last of it's kind, what's their reason for taking it out of it's natural environment?

so that it can die in captivity?

or do they want to keep it in hopes that they are wrong and that one of the opposite sex will be found?

Preserve it and collect DNA too. In this case that male was collected 10 years ago and the last female in capacity died 5 years ago. Sounds like we just flat out botched this preservation attempt as they collected tadpoles and other specimen only to lose em.

This this this all over

preserve? so like I said,............so it can die in captivity?

collecting dna makes sense if they're gonna try and go the jurrasic park route (if that's possible)

in the wild, I wonder if this frog could've mated with a different species that was compatible with it
