Just one picture for today:



I'm still playing with manual settings... increased the ISO to 800... still using F5.6 for aperture and 1/200 for shutter speed... also increased the EV comp a bit and changed the metering (that's trying something new for me)...

I must say I'm quite happy with the result though there's still a lot of work to do... and I'm really sorry about the dirty glass...

Here's a shot of fatty the oscar, just took it:

Sweet! I like this picture a lot. Now you can start working on proper composition... like framing the subject (here: Fatty) in the centre of the picture... cropping helps.

Here is the pleco that used to live with George until he attacked him one day(George that is) so to save the pleco we moved it to the tank of marbles, during the move it jumped straight out of the net and hit the floor. If you look on the right side of the picture the bone part of the fin broke off at the body and left it pretty in a bad way. You can see where the bone bit seems to has acutally grown back, you can see the join:

Now maybe it's time to see a full tank shot of that tank of marbles! I hope the pleco heals up fine...

That's what the masters over on AP swear by, the above tank flash, makes it almost look as if the fish is not in water when done right. I wouldn't worry too much about the slight focus issue, just more practice should do

Indeed! Their most common advice is to have a flash above and one on the side... you've seen the results on AP: awesome!

As in regards to the focus issue, I'm starting to think that maybe a change in metering might be able to solve it... then again, I'll still at level zero here, with everything to learn and thousands of experiments to do...

Now those shots are some of your best work to date. Very nicely done.

I've been working no stop over the past few days so I've not really had time to take many, I'll see if I can dig up some from the other week.

I hear you... Hell knows how much work has been taking of my time and energy lately... the fact that it's also starting to bore me doesn't arrange things... anyway, I'll be waiting for more pictures from you. No rush though, OK?

I don't like it Sorry Lou but I think the higher ISO washes the color out too much, Gold Gourami right? I suppose we can't both like everything heh? It's something I still need to do some experimentation with the higher ISOs in darker situations

I get one up for you, that tank is a major pain, there is so much wood in it and the plecos create so much waste that it need a 3/4 water change a week after removing everything from the tank just to keep on top of the waste tannins etc. and the reward? Nothing happens until the lights go out Plus the best fish in there is the L190 and you never see it, no matter how many caves you build it makes it's own behind the wood.

Ap is good but somewhat slower(less things happen) but great for advise all around, I love the critque sections, 'please insult my photo' and everyone still plays nice.

Winter is here so I'll get some shots of frost and snow just to remind you

Actually it's a blue one... sort of opaline or something And, believe me or not, my friend, its colour is actually like that... not my favourite fish but it was the only one I could use as model yesterday... the others were hiding...

About us not liking everything, well, that's the main idea behind this thread, right? Or else, it would be: Oh, I love this! Thank you, I like yours too, etc...

Hmmm... kinda hard to maintain, eh? I don't mind the big water changes but having to remove all the wood then put them back... tough! BTW, didn't you get any tetras or something to put in there?

Yes indeed, AP is rather les popular... but the amount of information available there is tremendous... I've learned so much from the guys there... and their kindness is made of warm gold!

Ah! Snow and frost! One of these days I'll finally learn what these are! Here we are currently going through a heat wave... the air is always hot and humid... makes sleeping nearly impossible...
