The Marmokreb Experiment

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I got em for my wolf but they take too long to breed. Some of the adults died. It took about two months to get babies.

Biggest problem is that if you have too many, they will cannibalize the ones that are molting.

This is the same issue I have.

My first one had babies around the first of October and sense then they have been growing well. I have mine in a 25 gallon tub with lots of hiding spaces and they have started cannibalize the others. I have thought about setting up two tanks but like someone else said don't want to take up the tank space.

From what I have read they won't eat fish or harm plants but that isn't true I have seen 1 young adult chew up 4 plants and eat 3 cory cats(even when feeding heavy so he would be full) in less than 2 weeks. I won't keep them in planted tanks anymore and I'm pretty careful about feeding them to my oscars want to make sure they get eaten.

Bland@ that is a nice looking tank makes me want to see what I can do with mine this weekend.

So far mine are living peacefully. The 1 plant is very slowly getting eating, but the marimo balls are holding up well.

Also the 75+ cherry shrimp have been fine so far. It's full of shrimp babies now. There must be about 200, but they are still very small. As soon as it starts to get full my oscar and severums will be getting lots more treats

I bought 6 of them 5 weeks ago. One week after I got them the first one berried, and within the next two weeks the rest of them berried as well. This past weekend I saw about 30 babies crawling around so I'm excited. Mine eat a little of the java moss I have in the tank but not to the point of damaging it. I also have cherry shrimp breeding in the tank as well, they seem to be a good combination. I had to remove the guppies I had breeding because they were making snacks of the baby crays. Currently they are in a 55 but I plan on getting some more tanks to use as growouts. I expect that within the next couple of weeks I will be seeing hundreds of these babies.

I have some. Can't use them as exclusive food source from just a 20long, but they seem to breed pretty quick really. Couple sizes of babies here. Just have various size cut pvc and large party straws and sponge filter.

This is a cool experiment. Ive always wondered about these. I may get some next time I see them to start a colony in my 30 breeder once I move out stock.

I'm assuming g they could make good snacks for rays?

Just noticed this morning my 1 adult left is berried up again. Can't wait for the next batch of babies.

Oh yeah. I've been buying pond crays every few weeks just to mix up their diet a little and they all go crazy. This project is moving at a snails pace though and I'm actively resisting the urge just to feed off my adults. I've yet to see any babies SMH. I wonder if my using a tank with no substrate is having an effect?

Looks like some substrate, moss balls, cherry shrimp and some more of them would help you out.
