After 2 Mountain Dews and a bag of Famous Amous, I got myself a fish!
My friend was there, and people were catching a fish called Boccaccio or Salmon Grouper, and to catch them, you use live sardines as bait, and a few cranks up from the bottom. I should add we are fishing 230 foot deep water. So, I am there, a live sardine on my hook, and drop it down, and get a HUGE bite. I’m like “HOLLY SH^T!”. I start cranking, and the fish TAKES THE FRICK OFF. 50 feet lost, and everyone around me, I start cranking.
The pole I was using is no rental (those are crap), but a pole I do Not know the name of. The reel is conventional, and it has a drag setting where it is limited, and I had it on max the whole time I was fishing. This is the first time I used this pole and reel. The reel is anoying, especially when we are fishing with 12 ounce sinkers.
5 minutes later, color. The deckhand yells to another “GET A NET. GET A NET. GET A NET.” I‘m like, so...big fish, eh? a minute later, the fish was distinguishable. A MASSIVE California Sheepshead. Net it, and it was a whopping 8.5 pounds! My dad and I also got some other rockfish. The Sheepshead was gutted and filleted. I kept the head. Anyone know a good taxidermist?
My dad is holding the sandbass and the Boccaccio
I caught the bass.
