I am starting this thread just for RallysMan!

What is the Meanist Cichlid? I think it's the Dovii, or the Umbee

Later,

Billy

I would throw a Buttikoferi in there ;) The other guys get a lil bigger, which makes it tough to say.. I would pick a 12" Butti over a 12" Dovii :)

In this order.....H. Faciatus...(some call them H. Frembongi now-a-days)
Dovii...then Umbie.......

If a Zaliosum wasn't "outgrown" by all the others, it would be the meanest of all.....
However...I'm old....I've raised all kinds of aggressive cichlids for over 35 years....and
though I know a helluvalot about big, mean, aggressive cichlids, I still learn something new everyday....and, I've been told some of the flowerhorns are extremely aggressive too...??
But, from my experience, and I have alot....the H. Faciatus is the strongest toughest cichlid there is when full grown....but it's not always the case....I have a 15 inch Red Devil, quad colored, that runs my 17 inch butter, my 10 inch dovii and my umbee under rocks.....but he's beserck and not mentally stable....LOL

dovii are the meanest hands down... maybe compared to the umbie but doviis just are crazy... anything of the nandopsis grouppp.

It all depends on the individual fish, in all cases:)

Yep...the individual fish is the answer....you're so right rallysman....this red devil here is by far the meanest cichlid I've ever owned.(last photo)...and, would fight anything....he's alone in a 110 gallon tank now....he's a quad colored red morph.....my dovii is really a bad ass for sure but cowars and tries to hide or jump out when he was with this guy.....and, as dovii88 posted, the Dovii is usually the king of all cichlids...a full grown faciatus is just as mean however, but rarely found anymore except when small and they are not at all aggressive for some reason until full grown...this 1st and 2nd pic is of my 6 inch faciatus/frembongi or whatever they label them these days.....and they do change colors as you can see, dramatically change colors.....

He's not mean, he's just kissing the glass:)

RD/Midas, Trimacs, Flowerhorns, Convicts....they all kinda look the same and they are crazy most of the time.

Convicts can really own, it's just that just about everything outgrows them. :D They can really take a beating also! My uncle had a 3" convict that beat up his 6" Male Flowerhorn. :grinyes:

LOL...yea, you're right...he's just a big wuss.....I wish the sob would breed with this female though....she's my next try anyhow...this was bought in Costa Rica...they called her a "flamingo"???....multi/rainbow colored....she's about 10 inches and has laid eggs twice....if he won't kill her I may be able to get some decent fry...ya think?
