The Meanist Cichlid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
the most aggressive cichlid ive owned has to be my female midas. got her at 2" along with 2 other midas's and when they started gradually growing she killed off the other male and female that were sharing the tank with it at the time. grew up to 10" before i had enough of her behavior and gave it to my mate. u could mistake her for being a male. cos she had a rather large nucha hump and long extentions to her dorsal and anal fin. very nice fish. but, aggresive cichlids arent for me these days cos ive retired from the dark-side of fishkeeping and prefer my more laid-back cichlids.
and as regards to what is the meanest cichlid. personally i would say for sure it would have to be the 'ODO' aka 'THE BLACK NASTY' cichlid.
They belong in the Nandopsis family and apparently a 8-9" speciman can rip apart a Dovii over twice its size.
I havent witnessed it first hand myself. but, just by observing how it behaves in a tank and its brutal looks,i totally believe it could.
so my vote goes to the 'ODO' aka 'BLACK NASTY' aka 'NANDOPSIS HAITIENSIS'

but, if i was a betting man and there was a cage fight between a angry convict and a black nasty cichlid both at around the 3" mark. my money would be on the convict to win. . . sometimes size matters

I am starting this thread just for RallysMan!

What is the Meanist Cichlid? I think it's the Dovii, or the Umbee

No, it's definitely a discus... on steroids!!!:WHOA:

I think Red Jewels are the nastiest. A clown knife in my tank (easily twice the size of the larger red jewel) ate the babies of my breeding pair. They SLAUGHTERED the clown knife. i put one in a smaller tank because it had a banzai leaf in its mouth, which i was attempting two remove. It killed 3 of my fish in half a day!!!

I'll go along with the red jewels being the meanest. I had a pair that would not allow anything to live with them.
