So after a year and a month of owning here she’s grown and I’ve finally put the tape across her. A whopping 1.5” lol. But she bulked out a lot. She now sits at 29” / 29”1/2 hard to see exact measurement 3ft down.

Pictures not the best, but she’s huge.

The two smaller ones are growing. Bigger one being around 14”.

So today I got my hands on one of the most impressive cats around in my eyes. The “yellow scuts “ Brazilian meglodoras, I believe they’ve now been discribed as Separate sp. compared to the common Uranascopus. I will have to double check that.

This is interesting although I haven't heard this, never heard of yellow scutes, and would be interested to learn more.

So far I fail to observe any significant difference from the usual irwini.

Though nice looking the fish in the bag looks like a normal megaladoras to me.Perhaps they take on the yellow colouring with size and age or this is one of those "flash zebra" type of deals.

I believe it to be what it was sold as, I also hope so as it fetched a hefty price tag. They come from one river, (ill
Dig the name of the river out) I can already see a difference in the head and mouth shape compared to the normal meglodoras. I compared to some normal ones in the shop where purchased from. Defiantly some differences. The colouration is also much more intense compared to the normal ones even at this size. I do believe they colour up as they grow.

I guess one will only tell for sure.

In these matters I am always on the sceptical side. Just saying that one has to overcome many things to proclaim a new species or a new morph even as a scientist, not to mention a hobbyist - almost no one would trust a hobbyist.

These photos even I have seen before. They appeared about 5-7 years ago or so. And they are still used today? Or dug up to make a splash, create a hype and a sale? IDK. Where are all other super yellow irwini specimen caught in the wild or raised in captivity?

I am with Krich that this smells like the flash zebra juruense marketing trick.

Head and mouth shape varies in humans too, especially with geographical location. They are still all the same species.

I know how much you are fond of irwinis. I don't want to pour on your parade but want to learn through you, whether this is something new or not.
