The Most 3D Backgrounds on MFK--Build Thread?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You know we do make a conscious effort to stock different fish (albeit they're all CA cichlids at the moment) and have different looking tanks. You'll never see us with the same BG.
Maybe some MFKers appreciate these tanks, but I don't post many pictures anymore--a lot of comments like "it takes up to much space" and even "your stands are ugly." Ha.

Hater gunna hate, let em.. Your tanks are flawless and well planned out. Setup is an art form and those who don't think so are entitled to their opinions. I would like to see more pics from you to be honest. I post pics like crazy because not everyone comments but some lurkers may enjoy them or not make the same mistakes I did by following a thread.

IMO we owe it to the hobby to show what can be done. I wont be collecting new species and introducing them to the hobby any time soon so if some member follows one of our threads and decides to take their tank more serious then we just gave back to the hobby :) (I sound like a hippy right now huh???)

I love reading about your tank builds, they always end up so detailed. Seeing what you guys do has convinced me to start looking at DBN for a bg to put in my tank the next time it's torn down. Seeing those before and after pics really shows how those bg's can take a nice tank to the next level.

Im a big fan of the 3D bgs myself, ok I might even be a lurker but were else will I get my fix.
Iv been lookin at your guys bgs since before I was an active poster on mfk. Forget about the few haters and think about all the people you influence posotivly even yhe ones that are just passin thru and not commenting. I have a personal challenge for myself to aquire and utilize more bgs than you two lol, and make a few along the way.

Man when i bought my backround not dbn it only came in only 20 " tall i have 24" tall tank. What a hassle i really had to get creative. I love that all your tanks have bg's. Cant wait to see the end video.......What about the stands though... Lol just kidding. Youv rekindled my bg fire, hadent relized dbn came out with new designs. My wife is gonna love you for this thread cause when i start ordering backgrounds shes gonna go on her own shopping spree, everthing i get for my tanks cost double whatever i buy then the equivilent gift she gets herself, its fair though. Iv never seen anyone with so many bg you should post an add in craigslist and charge the publuc to view ur own official public aquarium.

Hey clock if you interested in takin a look Justin let me post some pics of my almosr done first 3D project on his epic thread

Ive had it for a long time before I acctually bought almost a year ago, and finally started to work on it a few months ago. Im like the turtle slow and steady. lol. But was really trying to wrap my head around how to make it look good and satisfy my eagerness for an awsome show tank. one of my first 25 posts was asking your advice about how to deal with the dual overflows back when I first recieved it. I was angry at myself for ordering the beautiful 6' bd and not being able to fully utilize it. Iv made it work and may even get this thing filled one of these days.

Ot....
My best friend showed me clockwo many years ago when we were teens, he was more cultured at the time, since we have kept busy with the kult classics and new to be classics. Another he introduced me to is Romper Stomper, seen it? And most recently showed up at my house with Hobo With A Shothun, rofl, .......Ill keep my eyes open for that remake. lol

Thanks guys. I really wasn't going for the Facebook style "my life sucks please give me compliments" thing, just wanted to explain myself. I have seen your tank rollins, it looks great. I also have seen romper stomper, great movie.

Here are a couple pics because I know I really should post more:

225 rescape is not finished but in progress:

And a little preview of the 75... There are only a couple handfuls of sand in this tank, I will have to move it to the rack soon so I didn't want to add anything to make it heavier (like 50+ pounds of wet sand).

This is a brand new background from DBN, I believe this is the first tank this design has gone in? Not sure.

tanks look awesome. :headbang2 as for the stand it looks like the fatsners may be a major support which i've never liked and prefer the weight to being directy placed on the vertical supports so if thats the case i would say yes to adding some more vertical supports not placing any weight on fasters. about 3000 lbs on that stand and its always better to be safe imo than have lake nicaragua on your floor.

I agree. A buddy of mine is building them for me and sent me that pic. I talked to him tonight and we are going for this:
