So, long story short. I ended up with a snake that was not supposed to be rehomed, the original owner track me down, we were able to prove the snake was theirs, & I made the effort to get the snake back to them.
They seemed like decent people who were put into an odd situation with this snake & definitely seemed to care for the animal before circumstances required they temporarily put the snake into the care of a friend (who neglected it somewhat before puting it in my care)
Anyway... upon asking questions on the snakes care after I delivered it to them, they FLIPPED OUT when I told them I had the snake sexed by a vet via probing (the reason I did this was because I wanted to be sure that it was the male snake that they claimed it to be so that I knew we weren't giving them a snake that wasn't theirs) They attributed this sort of "traumatic experience" to the snake being "sexually molested" & pretty much made a judgment on my part, acusing me of being a liar like I was some sort of sick twisted individual who gets off on having snakes probed....
Now, I have NEVER in any of my years speaking with, or working with people who've dealt with snakes met someone with such a strong MORAL objection to the procedure. I've met people who don't recommend NOVICES due it for potential for injury, but never anyone who had a sort of "If I were a snake I WOULD NOT want it done!" attitude. In the veterinary industry there are many procedures that are uncomfortable but otherwise harmless to animals.
Of course, because of all this I have doubts as to these people's mental stability & actual knowledge of reptilian care... it was so friggin odd since I've pretty much always believed "probing" to be a common practice to determine the sex of a snake. Am I wrong?

Lots of people humanize their pets by giving it a name and feeding them breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Next thing they will want to do is make their animal into a vegan.
See, I get the idea that people want to coddle & treat their pets like their children. But a strong objection to a non-permanent procedure like this just threw me off... my guess is the probably don't have their dog neutered or their cat fixed either because they don't want to "Torture" their pets by making them undergo surgery... of course if they REALLY didn't want to have their pet live an "unnatural" life they wouldn't have it to begin with... but that's another rant.

That would immediately make me think that they are not really all that intelligent in the ways of reptiles.... People who don't understand probing very rarely are. I mean I have explained the procedure to many many people of all ages and never gotten that response. I tell them I am sure it's not the most comfortable thing for the snake but it doesn't hurt them when it is done right and they get over it pretty quick. I would think if they were really threatened or 'offended' by it they would turn around and bite you.....
I know it's probably different in your situation, but for me working at a pet store... if someone was THAT offended by it, I probably wouldn't sell them the snake, cause like I said... that just seems like reptilian ignorance to me.

Do they think proctologists and gynecologists are molestors as well?

I wouldn't have wanted to give it back to someone so ignorant. You'd think someone so apt to anthropomorphize would take better care of their 'baby'. I know it was in the friends care but the owner didn't even check in enough to notice it was getting in poor condition much less about to be given away.

Wow, that was a weird conversation. I've never heard anything like it. I get the occasional, "YOU'RE GONNA GET THE BLOOD FROM HIS/HER NECK?!?!?" when I explain how I'll be doing blood work on pets but I think that reaction is somewhat understandable. I've never heard of any objections to probing.

Wow. This is sad. And you are right, they probably do not fix any of their animals. In fact I bet you they breed adopted humane society dogs because they are CUTE.

Had it not been for the fact that I had already delivered the snake, & situated it with them before this conversation had come up I would have second-guessed making the decision to return it. By how outrageous they got over the thought of the procedure, the last thing I wanted to do was start a scene (Honestly, once they started reacting like that I just wanted to get away from the situation as quickly as possible.)
The previous owner was in college while this friend of their was "taking care of it" for the term, so I ddin't think to blame them for the fact that their friend rehomed the snake. They were very sincere & more than appreciative of getting their snake back UNTIL the probing issue came up, that's why it was so bizarre. They even made a donation to the org despite their objection to the procedure. It was certainly an unusual situation & I have some regret for returning the animal to them now.

Next thing they will want to do is make their animal into a vegan.

They do that already. Our store carries popular lines of food for cats and dogs that are "vegetarian" and "vegan". We also carry "kosher" foods for the holidays and the animals that celebrate it. -_-

This saddens me.....
