So, long story short. I ended up with a snake that was not supposed to be rehomed, the original owner track me down, we were able to prove the snake was theirs, & I made the effort to get the snake back to them.
They seemed like decent people who were put into an odd situation with this snake & definitely seemed to care for the animal before circumstances required they temporarily put the snake into the care of a friend (who neglected it somewhat before puting it in my care)
Anyway... upon asking questions on the snakes care after I delivered it to them, they FLIPPED OUT when I told them I had the snake sexed by a vet via probing (the reason I did this was because I wanted to be sure that it was the male snake that they claimed it to be so that I knew we weren't giving them a snake that wasn't theirs) They attributed this sort of "traumatic experience" to the snake being "sexually molested" & pretty much made a judgment on my part, acusing me of being a liar like I was some sort of sick twisted individual who gets off on having snakes probed....
Now, I have NEVER in any of my years speaking with, or working with people who've dealt with snakes met someone with such a strong MORAL objection to the procedure. I've met people who don't recommend NOVICES due it for potential for injury, but never anyone who had a sort of "If I were a snake I WOULD NOT want it done!" attitude. In the veterinary industry there are many procedures that are uncomfortable but otherwise harmless to animals.
Of course, because of all this I have doubts as to these people's mental stability & actual knowledge of reptilian care... it was so friggin odd since I've pretty much always believed "probing" to be a common practice to determine the sex of a snake. Am I wrong?
