These fish are the same age. Istlanum 4-5" Jag 7-8". The istlanum was suppose to be culled by my larger jag that was previously in this tank, but hid under some driftwood.

Same jag @ 11-12" I cracked my phone camera lens so quality is crap. You think an istlanum would survive?

I just want to be clear. That wasn't a gladiator match with the istlanum. It had some defects and use large parachromis as cullers. It was suppose to have been eaten before I released the new addition in, but was obviously more resilient than I gave it credit for.

Feeble jags. Blasphemy!

I actually did the same with some Convicts and my big Zonatus. Not only didn't he eat the Convict...the fish lived with Blue for almost a year. It was hilarious.

For the record, I have personally been bitten a half dozen times over the years. ALL of them by a managuense...most of them by the fish I called Jumbo. He was the only fish I had to distract on one end of the tank while I put my hand in the other end. One time I was reaching across the open tank to pull the shades and he literally jumped up and out of the water biting the back of my arm...hung for a second then splashed back. Another time I had a TV crew over to look at the collection. The reporter was filming Jumbo's tank. I said, if you open the lid he will come to the surface to see you. She did...and he did jumping up and damn near biting her nose.

Here he is during a water change. He was psychotic.

Your fish looks great :), although tank too small, not landscaped well enough for them, in the long run it may not work, better chance with larger tank and landscaped better...

Your cichlids looks healthy, water quality looks good, I hope it works for you :)

That only the Neet isn't taking hits.... Why? because its to fast and because its inflicting most of the damage on the other guys. If you want a show specimen in your tank with perfect fins....don't keep Neets ;)
 
What the hell are ya'll putting in the search box on youtube? What's the worst way to house baby grammodes and neets.

Now from the few videos ive seen. A colony of neets would be interesting if they're as social with each other as people say.
