It's been discussed before, I believe the most expensive freshwater fish ever was a show koi sold in Japan for a breezy 3.0 million. I believe it was back in the mid 70's....

I dont know about most expensive FW fish ever sold but the most expensive Arowana sold was at Aquarama 2007 (as previously stated for £200,000).

I read it years ago in a book on koi. Not sure what the title is.

I don't think it's so hard to imagine it. Japan's economy really took off in the 70's and it's not unusual for a newly rich individual to flaunt to his wealth by making outrageous purchases.

No it's really not. I wondered years ago in other non-fishy hobbys "How do japanese people afford that? That's expensive" Wasn't til this hobby that I realized there are alot of people over there that just have money and they spend it on hobbys. I mean even looking at a MFK book while it may not be 3 million in setups.. You can tell some of those setups are $$..
