So, as of last night when I found my Frontosas dead in their 125 due to what looks like low oxygen levels from a failed powerhead, I have an empty tank. Now comes the question of restocking. I have 4 tanks total. A 20 quarantine, a 40 breeder with a smaller JD and a GT, a 75 with a 9-10" Mbu, one NTT, and a fire eel, and the 125 which now contains only an albino bichir and a couple convicts. I'll need a bigger tank for the Mbu soon enough and the 125 isn't much wider than the 75 though I know that's the first thing that comes to mind. I could always restock the 125 with a colony of young Fronts, but I'm open to suggestions. The rules of tha game are you can rearange the fish in any combination within the tanks listed. Any fish can be subtracted except for the Mbu and Dat. After subtraction any fish species and quantity can be added to the tanks to reach the final arrangement so long as the cost of them does not exceed $350. Ready, go!

I've been trying to figure it out, but that's all I can come up with. The powerhead was my only source of aeration. The bichir- who can take in atmospheric oxygen, and a couple convicts with fry all survived. If it was a chemical problem the fry should have died off first. I know the levels were good because I had done a 60% water change the night prior. No signs of duress. Low oxygen is what I came up with. Larger fish died first, smaller ones survived.

I was kinda hoping for opinons on what to do with the tank now. Ergo the multi-tank shuffle game. Thought it would take my mind off the loss.

I had same thing happen exactly. I only lost one of my large fronts and some adult Mbunas. Guess who runs sponge filters now mainly for airation?

On to the game:

I would like to see a 6' tank with 2 Fire eels, 2 Tire Track eels, 2 Bichers (your choice of species)

OR

50 Clown loaches :woot:

OR

Red Tail cat, Tiger Shovelnose cat, 2 Pacus, soft shell turtle
These guys would outgrow this tank though

OR

Buy like 100 of the tinyist Electric yellow cichlids you can get and watch them grow. It would look like a swarm of bees.

Good luck man. Post picks of your tank after you decide.

get rock do a tank of mbuna... two reefs or three with some open sand for the males to test each other on... no worries about a dull tank... will need to add something to make sure that does not happen again...
