The natural themed monster fish tank build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes most likely, I must say two of those arowana are leaving me on Tuesday as I'm just holding them for a friend. I will likely get any other fish in a few months. Will just stick to the Ray and arowana for the first couple months.
If you can get your hands on a flagtail, they are good clean up crew. As long as it doesn’t munch on your ray of course.

Yes good idea! Im definitely leaning towards a shoal of 6 striped silver dollars as I think they will provide a nice movement with the tank but everything else will be based around the arow and stingray as the centre piece fish. I'm going to wait a few months on the other fish to make sure I'm 100% sure which fish I want but a flag tail may look really nice.

So im still gathering scaping supplies, I’ve got the large piece of bog wood, and the various sized round river stones. Need to give the stones a wash tomorrow and lay them out. Next thing to order is the sand/gravel, I’m also thinking of attaching a clear airline down one of the corners into the middle of the aquarium so I can have an air stone under the wood and gravel if I want to have that on. Here are the options I’m considering, will be 40kg of sand 1-2mm and 10kg of gravel 2-4mm. Plan to put the fine gravel around the centre piece. I know the ray will slowly mix up the gravel into the sand but I think it will provide a nice natural look

here are the two sand options I’m considering and also the gravel at the bottom. Any input or suggestions would be great!

thanks

Though I would update a few pictures from the QT tank, fish are eating and doing well. Arowana I think might be fighting at night or doing something they shouldn’t lol, becuase their fins are slightly tatty. The two will be going Wednesday morning so not much longer to go, then my one can roam the tank.

Wow. Such a symmetrical pattern. Very nice, perimeter spotting, and white in the eyes, looks like an actual true bd imo. But I’m no expert.

wow thank you very much! Really appreciate that. Was a novice picking the ray out of the group available, the others were supposedly a BD mix with super white but I prefer the cleaner look of this one. Would be cool if it is a true BD it’s loving the prawns I’m giving him. it was bought as a black diamond but I do know anything could be potentially crossed into the mix.

+1.

Also, when it comes to substrate for rays, the finer the better
I don’t agree with that 100%. Sometimes if the substrate is too fine, such as pool filter sand, pups can have a hard time separating food from the sand.

we had a batch of bd pups that we needed to pull the sand out of the tank for because they weren’t eating, heads caved, spots running etc. As soon as we pulled the sand they started eating again.

Okay thanks, I think I’m going to go for the first sand option, think it’s 1-2mm grains, quite fine but still larger grains than pool filter sand etc. Think ill get it ordered this weekend. the modifications for my canister filter arrived this week as well so I’ll put some pictures up of that when I get the chance. Coming together slowly

thanks
