Yes i know..but i just want to know how to distinguish them physically...
I google their pics but seems no differences between surinamensis and altifrons lol....here we go...

Yes it is an altifrons, i was just being more exact in regards to the variant. Apologies, if it came out sounding wrong.

Where did you get this information from? Any pictures I've seen of "sp.Aeroes" have a larger mid lateral spot. Also, how can you tell what river the fish came from just by looking at it. The fish pictured can be from Xingu, British Guyana, or various other rivers and tributaries throughout Brazil.

I just blew up the picture, and it looks exactly like mine did, from the tocantins, down to the last scale.

That's my understanding too. Some refer to them as G. aff. altifroms "Aeroes". They have a large mid-lateral spot that you don't see in "typical" G. altifrons.

Quite sure the fish in the OP is a G. altifrons. I've kept three variants - "Tapajos", "Tocantins" and "Manuas" (which might be the port instead of locality). They definitely look different, but a bit hard to tell from one picture.

Well, my feeling is that "Tapajos" is more yellow, "Tocantins" more red, and "Manuas"more metallic blue. But I had them at different times in different tanks at different age, so it's really hard to compare. Here are a few pics anyway.

Mine very similiar with the manaus, totally different body pattern with the tocantins. Yes they are really sexy and elegant!
