i heard that too. the blue pads arent the polishing, the white ones are. box says fine filter pad for the blue and fine polishing pads for the white. i may try it and see if it causes bubbles.
 
i just installed my FX5 and it was causing alot of bubbles. I read on a forum to put pam oil on the seals and that has seemed to fix the bubbles however now the filter system seems to be gurgling on and off. It was contact for about 10 minutes and is slowly getting less and less, is there a way to purge this? or is this something we have to live with?
 
They purge themselves once a day I think. If I'm near it when it happens I see a couple big bubbles come out of the exhaust and then it fires right back up.

For media I've got scrubbies on top, and seachem matrix in media bags in the other 2. I just switched to that, I'm hoping the scrubbies do most of my pre-filtering so I can just rinse them occasionally in tank water and not have to touch the matrix.

Thanks for all the updates and info! i have it up and running, it started off extremely noisy, i took it back apart and put some pam oil on all the seals and that stopped the air. The system seems perfect now and is running. It is amazing how quiet the system is. For the size of it i figured it would be a noisy thing but as it turns out, i cant even hear it in my living room ;)
