Welcome.
Get more mbuna for that tank 2 is an unstable relationship with any mbuna.
Post some questions in the african cichlids section youll get more help there, good luck!

I had originally put 4 fish in with the female. Sadly "Mommy's Little Monster" decided they were unworthy to be in his tank and systematically killed all except the female. It was so bad that I ended up taking the final survior back to the store so he might have a chance to survive.

I made her a little cave that he doesn't fit in to so she can run away from him. So when I get paid I'm going to go to the FS to buy all of their females. It's the only thing that I can figure out.

My little monster is more aggressive than a Kenyi should be. It's ok though. I'm not going to get rid of him b/c I don't think anyone else would put up with him. Guess I'm a little attached to him too.

Just a warning about the boards here......there seems to be a virus going around, symptoms include: Staring endlessly at your aquarium, hallucinations about larger aquariums, removing of household furniture to install said larger aquariums.

As I look around for somewhere to sit, I wonder what has happened to my house, my mind wanders. Today the new shipment of fish comes in at my lfs, I have three empty aquariums sitting in the garage. I need to contact the electrician, I am out of outlets to plug into, maybe it would just be easier to move....I could get a four bedroom house. Wait, I forgot about the wigglers.....I need to set up a tank for the fry. Maybe I'll go to the lfs tomorrow....just to look :nilly:

Welcome to the madness!

You need more than 1 cave. A lot of rock work with LOTS of places to hide is the key. Many beginners who keep mbuna get frustrated because they think that introducing a lot of rock work will mean that their fish will always hide but that is not the case. More hiding places = happier, more comfortable and confident fish = a happy fish owner with fewer fish losses.

I wopuld suggest you create a good pile of rocks at either end. Make sure there are plenty of caves to hide in. I would also like to suggest you get 2-3 other species, 1xmale and 2xfemale of each species, so as to create a sort of diversion for the lombardoi(the real name). If you can try to find one of the syndontis catfish to add to the tank. Hardy fish that will also help to keep the tank clean.
Fish I suggest you look at adding are, Melanochromis auratus, Pseudotropheus saulosi/socolofi, Pseudtropheus crabo, Pseudotropheus acei, Metriaclima callainos, Labidochromis caeruleus or any of the Cynotilapia species.
This will give a nice variation of fish and of colour.
Post some pic's.:naughty: :headbang2 :nilly:

Well, nothing very special. I have a small tank in my office, 3 neons, 2 red eye tetras, 2 barb tetras, and algie eater and one that I have no idea. (I saved him from a friend that was going to dispose of him) I'm not sure all these names are accurate but I did my best. I guess if I'm gona talk the lingo in here I should maybe get some sort of book on fish with pics so that I know what I'm talking about. I have a 50(??) gallon at home waiting to be put up and trying to decide what kind of fish to start with. Sorry if I'm wasting your time. You are probably into much bigger and more interesting. ;)

Well, you are not wasting my time, nor anyone else's here either. (we do that ourselves ;)) With 50 gal or so there is alot you can do, but more that you can't. I think most Mbunas (lake malawii) would go in a 50, but I am not positive, nor an expert. Most Tanganyikans would be okay as well. Personally I am more into SA cichlids, but I do want a tang tank. First started the hobby with marine, but find myself more intrigued by the cichlids. And what comprises a fish to be a monster.............Size or attitude? If it is size, 50 gal falls way short, but if it attitude you got lots of space;)

Nice to meet both of ya!

New to this site too but do have alot of fish!! 5 tanks up and running 3 more waiting for more space. Started small like you but have definately caught the bug  I also have tetras in a 10 gallon hex and they are just as fascinating to watch as my 12 inch oscar although they don't have the personality that he does. He's definately a member of the family and not just a cool fish to watch. If you love fish you love fish no matter the size and we all have to start somewhere. Welcome!!

:iagree: lots of rocks and hiding places. Plus more fish. African cichlids, you will find, are better kept more heavy stocked. There are lots of good threads on this site that you can read by doing a search.
