The New Set Up

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yeah, I've had him for a couple months now. Maybe my lungfish is a mutant. I figured that size was probably a large part about what made a lungfish flip over to the dark side. Frankly, my guy seems to be a pretty picky eater. He'll snack on blood worms and beef heart but he doesn't ever really seem to go to town on them. Thus far, he's showed little interest in sinking shrimp pellets or algae wafers. After reading through this forum I was expecting to see some massive appetite paired with massive growth. He has certainly gotten bigger, but not by much.

side note: I'm still toying with the idea of adding some kind of bottom dweller to the tank as a clean up crew. Probably the "safest" choice would be to just stack a ton of ghost shrimp or maybe some snails, but that's a little on the boring side. Ideally, I'd like to add a school of cory cats or a small group of south american bumblebee cats but I'm slightly afraid of the lungfish taking a mouth full of spines. Anyone think this would be an issue or should I just leave it as is? For the moment I would consider my tank understocked.

my advice would be to keep it by itself..alone. (so no tankmates) except for potential feeders.....
p.s. I checked out your website...dig the drawings.

Grif, out of curiosity what size tank do you have your dolloi in? What sized tank am I looking at "for life" for my guy?

My dolloi lives in a 5 x2,5 x 2,5 ft (waterlevel at 1,3ft)...I'm planning to upgrade this summer.
saving some cash now...not only my dolloi needs a bigger home but also my Aethiopicus is in need of a new tank + I need some new filtration....so I need loads and loads of cash...
I think the max tank size depents on the fish, a dolloi an grow up to 120cm...but i doubt it all dolloi will get this big...so I guess a 6 or 7ft tank will do.
