These are not mine, but I have 2 (used to be 3 but lost one) in my koi pond which is under ice right now. What makes them odd is the change in their lifetime from juvenile (first picture) and adult (second picture). They've been known to reach somewhere between 36-48 inches in the wild (Yantze river in China) but rarely reach that length in captivity. They are river fish and bottom feeders and supposedly no one has yet been able to determine how to breed them in captivity. They breed in the wild in smaller streams that are tribuaries to the Yantze. I would love to figure out how to breed them, but I guess I'd have to figure out how to reproduce their environment from the wild to do that. I believe they are part of the loach family. I will be bringing them into the house shortly with my koi to a large plywood tank that I plan to build shortly and I hope to do a flow through setup on. Still researching, but should happen soon.
