so basically you want us to right a detailed essay about a specific gar?

why cant we have a mod like this in the aro section. people get so anal over there haha

not necessarily a specific gar. there're several topics we have on hand.

u can start the movement. lmk if u need help with the sticking threads etc.

basically im less than the most qualified person to be doing this. but im getting help from the people who are (sol n richard will be overseeing the whole thing). i'd suggest you do the same. shoot me a pm regarding what u mean by people are so anal.

cheers:)

I will do all I can to help Alex, Just now real busy. I have to work on an artical for Tropical fish hobbist and their IMPORT REPORT Colomn of the magazine. When I have time I will do all I can for all of you here too. But now I really want this artical, so I need to shine on my 1 chance. Thanks, John

sure thing. we are taking this really slowly. better 1 good garticle then 10 bad ones.

Cool Beanz! I want to write up a garticle on Shortnose Gars. I'm sure there are member's with more experience, but I got drive, dedication, enthusiasm and a killer smile that puts me over the top. Lol! Seriously I was thinking about keeping a full blown Journal on here about my experiences with these guys. From my stream lining my collection to focus on them. I would keep monthly progress reports on size, temperament tank upgrades feeding conversions, decorations and compatible tankmates. Plus I plan on taking lot's of photo's to include in the Garticle. I've already started tracking progress in a black and white composition book. Just waiting on 2 more things before I wanted to start the thread a DSLR and 2 more Shortnose Gars due to be delivered friday. Hoping to get the camera in a month maybe less. Bye the way Xander what do you thing about a Canon Rebel T1I as my first DSLR? That's currently what I'm leaning too.

great to hear kolt! the Garmy is in approval of your enthusiesm. the journal is a great idea. but it might be more beneficial (not to mention easier) to focus on one particular aspect. i think size might be a good idea. here's an example of a guideline you could use

:growth blogs

-weekly size recordings-

record:
tank size
feeding regime
diet
water param testing 2x a week
temp test daily
waterchange regime
tankmates

record for 6 months and you'd have a decent garticle. definately will help people see the kind of growth they can expect under certain conditions.

will post more tmr morning, am exhausted from a long day. not too sure about the cameras, check with chaitika? i'll read a bit on it and reply you tmr as well

I've been very busy, sorry I can't help more Alex. Should be on more regularly soon-

Michael

I'll be sure to document the growth and such of any future gar acquisitions.

Too bad I can't have my parents get a good measurement of some of my YOY longnose gar from this year; they told me on the phone the other day that the gar appear to be close to the 24" mark now! I had been doing close to weekly size recordings, so I may be able to put together a decent garticle on longnose gar minus the water parameters.
