The Ornate

I usually see them around $20, but it also seems they get cheaper as time passes. I remember Ornates used to go for $40-$50 when I first saw them. First one I ever got was for $25 on a Black Friday sale.

I don't think I've ever come across any 2" bichir period! Would like to see one that small :cool: Bought my Ornate long time ago at bout 5-6" (maybe lil smaller, cant remember). Cost $45, know that was average price at the time. Was well worth the $, a nice looking monster now. I couldn't even put a price on it now, couldn't part with him.

Funny thing when I was picking out the Ornate...I picked the lightest colored one. I noticed a lot of young Ornates are very dark and lightens as they grow. I wanted to see what the lightest colored one would look like as it matured. Seems that he retained more of his pattern than most of Ornates I notice at his size. Seems as Ornates grow, I think their patterns fades/blends. We'll have to see how long his pattern last the larger he gets.

When I bought mine, it was very dark at 1-2inch, now its really lost its color, very light based at 9-10inch
 
I wish I could experiment more with this theory, but...time, money, and space, lol!
