Everyone know oscar's decide how they like there tank to be not you. Any decor is moved around to suit the fish not you. So here it is the oscar challenge.

History:

We got two baby red oscars almost a year ago and one got really big quickly and the other was not allowed to eat much, we named them fatty and bumbum. About 9 months in fatty killed bumbum:( Since then fatty has become a typical big oscar always demanding things his way, a couple of days in:

Anyway the tank was planted and after 3 months or so since the demise of bumbum now have no plants. Long story short we are setting up another one of my tanks for a neighbor and were looking for things to put it and came across the usual tack that we've got over the years but found an arch that we thought would look good so we added it to the tank a few weeks back. This thing doesn't stay veritical for long and then he spends his time buring it.

As the tank is algae prone(as you can see), we remvoed the bog wood and filled it with more older tack, just to annoy/see what he does with it:naughty:.

Glass gets scrubbed weekly this picture does not refect that:

The whole point of this thread is to show what he does with it all after 24-48 hours. I'd also be interested to see the same thing(does'nt have to be tack) with everyones oscars.

Let's see what the do:)

Thanks for reading

I've still not got use to my shift change.

Anyway here is the after picture, notice the clear patch of gravel just under fatty, this is where is moving a mouthful at a time to bury the arch, the barrel is not friend either;)

He needs a tank mate... he is bored and looking for trouble....

I agree he does, but no smaller than him or your asking for trouble

I know, he's a pain and killed his previous oscar tank mate

Shame, Oscars do best in pairs, maybe get another oscar the same size and put other smaller fish in the tank to disract the bad Oscar from killing the new Oscar, it might cost a bit though.

My Oscar grew up with My Fm that has of course doubled in size compared to the 5 inch Fm but they get along wonderfully..also added a 1" Salinvi to see if the Salvini could hold his own..(I also added a Bushynose Pleco at the same time which he just now killed 4 months later...needless to say He is agressive But loves the company he has now!...The Salvini has made it to 3 1/2" and has proved that he wont be swallowed!

Where did you read that oscars do better in pairs? I would be very courious to read that. I gave up long agon on any sort of tank decor for my oscar tank, she shreads anything that goes in there with her. I used to have a CAE with her and he lived in a small log type thing that had small fake plants attached to it. Well when she would start to chase "kif" the CAE he would swim to that log and hide out. Then she, being the nosy fish she is, would swim down and try to peep in on him, and if she was really mad she would rip off another piece of fake plant attached to it. Pretty soon they were all gone, and I was left with a ugly log. So point is, I have other tanks that I can make look nice lol
