My local petsmart accepts drop-offs every now and then and also has some odd deliveries. I have been there every now and then because they occasionally have clown loaches for 4.50. annywayyy, in december I was there picking up some CL's and they had a Geo. surinamensis with absolutely no caudal fin. They let me have him for free since no one else was buying him. He has since grown his tail back all the way (its a bit crooked) but isnt growing much besides that.

This weekend, I went to pick up the rest of my CL mini-school and the girl working there recognized me and said they had another "broken fish." I saw him and hesitantly picked him up in the same fashion. He is a severum that I expect is just a genetic disaster lol. His fins look beat up and crooked but apparently they just grew that way. I named the geo "poor little tink-tink" and the new sev, "Breght."

apparently I'm just gonna have to keep an aquarium with a mess of ugly, deformed, or stunted fish...but I love them...anyone else have the rescue bug?

I'll post pics later on when I get back home. :grinno:

That's a really nice thing to do. I've never rescued any fish because I like to raise them from babies (like the challenge) and honestly there's not a lot of fish stores where I live. The petsmart close to me also doesn't take any fish unless you bought it from them recently and the family-owned LFS is a little shady - I gave em a very healthy juvenile Oscar once and I think it ended up in the 2 feet Arowana tank lol, they told me "it mysteriously died" just one day later.

^_^ i rescued a tailless convict from petsmart..love rescues.

glad someone who knows what they are doing gave them a good home!

I know; people always say dont buy sick or unhealthy fish. But if you can fix em or give them a good life, why let them die in a commercial tank? Kudos
