I'm beginning to think that the BB in my mechanical side, as well as those throughout the rest of my tank (on glass, substrate, bogwood rocks etc etc) could cope with my bio load WITHOUT any bio filtration in my mid sump section at all!!!! How's that for a statement!
Hello; Having run tanks with no power filtration at all and also tanks with only bubbler operated filtration for a number of years back in the 1950's and 60's, this statement fits in with my experience.
Even when the first mechanical filters, primitive HOB's as compared to todays, my primary reason for using them was to help control the detritus (mulm).

When I bought all my media I had big dreams of massive tanks with 20 or 30 rays so I'm building up to it . I have all the media I will ever need for now but need to make sure I'm good to go. I am actually redoing my 125 sump to run a bigger build for a main tank so it escalating quickly
