I have been hearing much about the anti-oxidant power of garlic for fish. Many humans -- including myself -- are using it for the improvement of our cardio health. I was in my LFS today and they had a small bottle of a garlic supplement for fish. It's cost $18, which I thought was an outrage. I've been reading up on garlic, but I can't find much on this site. I've also heard that garlic improves palitability of typical fish foods when dealing with finnicky fish, who are not eating. What are the true benefits of garlic? What garlic supplements are you using? Does it work or do you think it's just a fad? Can I save money and make my own garlic supplement for my fish? How exactly are you using garlic with your fish? Are you soaking your foods in it? Thanks in advance.

it might have been luck, or it really worked, but when when i got an angelfish it would not eat.

after 3 days, i put a "pinch" of fresh garlic in a zip lock and crushed it, added flakes & pellets and used it during feeding time.

the angel ate it up every time, and i slowly stopped using the garlic and i have had the angel for 4+ months now eating fine w/o garlic

Thanks. I'll consider this product.

Just a heads up, when you open it be prepared to be smacked in the face with garlic.

So, you used a piece of fresh garlic clove and mixed it with pellets and flakes. I'll have to consider that as an option. Thanks.

I use regular fresh garlic from the grocery store...I make my own food for my fish sometimes Here is my super secret recipe!
In a food processor add in 4-5 cloves garlic and a chopped carrot (add spinach too if you want) and beat it to a pulp.
Then cube up beef heart removing all the fatty stuff on the outside and beat this to a pulp wth previous ingredients add to a freezer bag and flatten to approx 1/4" thick and freeze...break into pieces to feed to fish.
I have never had a problem with it making my water dirty either.

Yea, my uncle taught me to use garlic spray on trout bait whenever we go fishing because apparently, the scent it releases is very strong and the fish come to check it out, which is what attracts them. I also used it on DIY minnow traps and I have to say it helped out more than I expected. I think the garlic is just to grab their interest, rather than a fish supplement.

thanks, the same lfs that i visited today, had sheets of their own frozen recipe for sale. some of your ingredients were included in theirs. cool. so, you're using frozen beef hearts designed specifically for aquarium fish or are you using actual beef hearts purchased from a butcher?
