Yea, my uncle taught me to use garlic spray on trout bait whenever we go fishing because apparently, the scent it releases is very strong and the fish come to check it out, which is what attracts them. I also used it on DIY minnow traps and I have to say it helped out more than I expected. I think the garlic is just to grab their interest, rather than a fish supplement.
i've read that it is also used as an anti-oxidant, and can possibly prevent fish diseases, not cure them, but prevent. i'm not sure . . . i'm just curious because garlic has been used by humans for centuries for various medicinal purposes.

"Garlic has properties that repel Ich and parasites in fish. It is also an antibacterial and antifungal supplement."

seen it somwhere in the pet store, its probably not the miracle cure, but it is probably helpful, and i think fresh garlic is a great and cheap alternative to try (and a lot easier to find around the house)

beef heart fresh from the butcher
cool, i'm sure that method is saving you lots of cash and your fish are receiving a highly-nutritional, home-made diet. my lfs also included squid and shrimp. those little frozen beef heart cubes that are made specifically for fish are expensive.

some of my fish like my home made food and some didn't my endlie didn't tough it but he never eats anything except guppies...black ghost knife, electric blue jack, angels, green terrors loved it and a few others picked at it.

i was also looking into adding garlic to my fish food ,while shopping i realized a lot of foods already have it in them. hikari cichlid as well as their koi food, o.s.i and some others. im feeding with these foods now and the fish love it,not woried about adding it to foods anymore.

NLS foods all contain some garlic. NLS A+ pellets contain a lot of it. This is my staple and I can feed my herbivores and carnivourous plecos with out worrying about too much protein or not enough. Ask anybody who used this stuff and garlic is a main ingriedent.

I have used fresh garlic cloves, like 9 of them with my omega-1 sinking pellets to get my datnoids interested and hopefully off of live foods at one time.

What I did was use a garlic press to get the garlic juices out and have it soak on the pellets. It was quite difficult since the garlic oil/juice was very sticky so I just pressed all 9 cloves into a bowl and pressed the pellets in it leaving it for 10 mins or so. Now my pellets were soaked up pretty good and I just dumped all 9 cloves with pellets into my tank.

At first I was like, OMG what the hell did I just do. I looked like a huge mess. After I was done tripping out, every single fish in my tank, except the NTT datnoids went crazy for it. They finished all of it. Crushed garlic and all. The fish stock is in my signature.

As for a product called Garlic Guard, I used this after and it seemed to get all fish interested also. But I have not used Garlic Guard since cause I get fresh peeled garlic from sams club and I just use fresh garlic once in awhile.
