I don't run sponge filters cuz it's too noisey with the air pumps humming. I paid $10 and the other pump was $21. I couldn't justify the cost so I just got the battery version. Plus I already got an mini electric air pump if I ever need it.

Then you need another air pump. My setup is as quiet as can be. I wanted a fool proof backup so I didn't need to be awake or home for the backup to work and save my fish. I've got some rare plecos and such so I don't want anything to happen to my fish. For me it was an inexpensive solution to an otherwise devastating problem.
