Most of the flames I have seen have started out with bad-to-horrible advice being given as gospel. I understand wanting to help, it's a basic human want, but if you haven't tried it and had it work long term, DON'T try to pass it off as truth. It's like pouring gas on yourself to a flamer.
Sometimes though, I have seen innocent questions asked because someone was given bad info and the very first answer was a flame. Read the whole question, don't just glance and flame. I've seen that a few times.
Another thing to remember, sarcasm rarely expresses well in print. Been guilty of that once or twice myself.
Context can mean a lot too. Before you fly off the handle read at least some of the previous posts completely.

Anybody here remember Emily Lattilla?

the regular guppies of mine in arowana forum likes to flame me because i kept my 5 inch at most in size silver arowana in 20G breeder grow out tank and i skipped the lengthly cyle with bacteria in the bottle.
i found them entertaining and like to feed them and fuel them with more materials that is flammable LOL
i guess i like to be hated in arowana forum :nilly:

In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking other users into a desired emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion

And to OP, If you look closely enough, you would find that most of the flame threads are always started with friendly and genuine advise from experienced fishkeepers which the flamed took it lightly and threw them down the drain. So I can't really blame those guys involved in flaming as they are getting ticked off by fish abuse. I think you all know that most of us (except trolls) are fish lovers around here.

x2.

Another option for you OP is the "ignore user" feature. If there happens to be a person(s) that really grind your gears choose to ignore them. Gr8 has a a few stalkers I'm sure are on this list by now..

:D :D :D :D :D

I agree with this thread but unfortunately I've seen it happen on many mature boards from woodworking, to camping to now fish keeping.

Some people get sick of seeing the same question over and over and the same mistakes over and over and they flame people.

The only way to fix the hobby is to educate people, people that get flamed aren't educated they leave the site only to do what they have been doing.

Kiss this thread goodbye. We've heard enough from both sides. Use the report button. Thank you.
