The Purigen challenge

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
it was like that before the powerhead. maybe ill pop open the canister tomorrow and throw it in there. I will say i can clearly see the color changing of the purigen in there so it must be doing something.
Im not sure what else to add for mech? i have two sponges in the AC and theres a big one in the eheim.

So what is your theory on what the clouding is due to anyway?
i have no idea. my two 29s up in my room are clear even after water changes. using the downstairs faucet or tub seems to do it. My 50 that was in the same spot as the 106 had the same thing.

maybe i need to start hauling buckets down stairs :irked:

you cloudiness is bubbles and not enough mech filtration

I agree some of it's bubbles, surface agitation works wonders for aeration, so you could try facing the powerhead up at an angle more toward the surface. This way you'd get the benefit of the bubbles and surface agitation and lessen the bubbles in the lower levels of the tank. You could also try a diatom filter, my friend used one to "polish" his water once a day and his results were pretty impressive. I never used it myself, but he had the same problem as you and it worked for him. Hope it works out for you, and by the way sweet Jag you got there!:D

i actually looked for a diatom before deciding on the purgien but everywhere is sold out. ill take a picture tomorrow without the powerhead on. i only have it there to spread the heat out as those new fluval e heaters are finicky with their flow rates.
and thanks, i hope my female likes him when they both go in the new 220. shes twice his size at the moment...

I'm using one of these that my dad purchased back in the late 70s or early 80s and it still runs like a champ, the only parts that have been replaced are the hoses.

I had a similar problem with a 55 I used to have and the problem was that I was over cleaning the tank causing a bacteria bloom every week. Once I reduced by vacuuming to once every 3 or 4 weeks with weekly water changes to problem corrected itself.

took a quick snap inbetween games today.turned off the powerheard and ac70 for the pic. There is a fairly noticeable difference after 3 days. Ill have to get a better one tomorrow after work when i have time.
