The difference between some South American waters (above) and Central American water (below is like night and day.
Above are two examples of catch location data, the 1st shot for cichlids like severum, angels, oscars, or chocolate cichlids.
The 2nd for cichlids like Vieja, Parachromis, and Herichthys.
You can easily see, putting them in the same tank is not going to bode well.
And notice the difference in hardness and conductivity, certain bacteria have preferences for certain hardness and pH.
Fish that have evolved in hard high pH water have built resistance to these bacteria, where fish from the area of the first photo, have had no need to build resistance over millennia so often get scarred up by HLLE of intestinal hard water bacterial species.
