Most of us realize that there is a unique sub-culture of fishkeeping in SoCal. We have amazing deals that seem to get bested all the time.

I've been thinking about why that is, and I wrote a short blog about it.

Check it out and let me know what you think, thanks :)

The real reason why all the deals are in SoCal...

It's relative to population size. CA. has a huge chunk of the overall population!

california has a huge chunk of what overall population? The overall population of america? Southern california does have a large population density , but you cant possibly believe that relative to the rest of america southern california has an average number of fishkeepers/ people. its not true, there are definately more fishkeepers in southern california even when divided into the population. the ratio of fishkeepers to people is larger in so cal.

I agree, the more people in any given area, the more money there is to spend on 'wants' rather than 'needs'.

And that's why I bring up the point that our Asian communities are such an important factor. All of my favorite LFS's are owned by Asian people which is cool because they know what's good and always have more than just run of the mill stock.

This gets more people interested in the hobby, and around here you can go to almost any friends house and there's a good chance they have at least one small aquarium in their house.

Asians for the win!!! Although I was puzzled why Filipinos were pretty much characterized as separate from Asians here in the Stars and Stripes State. That didn't make sense to me but after seeing all the legal forms and the check boxes, it still didn't make sense. Derail...

Over 10% of the total population lives in cali.

Reason right there ^

Actually, that was part of the original title

I think a big part missing from your blog is CA's proximity to Asian countries in relation to the rest of the country. Everything that comes from Asia comes in through California. Naturally, more prolific hobbyists will situate themselves amongst the area and pick-and-choose the rarities that cross their paths. Very few AAA fish make it past California's border.
